Today, the World Match Racing Tour revealed the remaining 4 ‘Tour Card’ captains who will be a part of the World Championship 2016 – France’s Yann Guichard, Sweden’s Mattias Rahm, Denmark’s Nicolai Sehested, as well as the very first all-female Tour Card team to be guided by United States’ Sally Barkow fill out the list of 10 appointed Tour Card Skippers for next year.
Sally Barkow, born in the United States, a former Olympic sailor as well as 2-time US Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year, has garnered her racing stripes both offshore and inshore, most recently on board all-female Team SCA in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15.
Barkow stated that it had really been a dream of them to race on World Match Racing Tour ever since they were awarded their very first wild card to race in the Monsoon Cup 2005. Back then she was working for a Greece yacht charter company. Now finally, their timing is right. They have built a strong International team and after racing around the world they could not wait to get back on the water and into the multihulls.
Making his very first appearance on World Match Racing Tour, Yann Guichard, an ex Olympic sailor, from France is known to the multihull world after many campaigns including the Multi One Championship and Rolex Fastnet Race.
Guichard said that the multihulls are embedded in Spindrift racing’s DNA and he have always been drawn to match racing. With the introduction of multihulls, the World Match Racing Tour now really offers a unique opportunity to combine both aspects. The World Tour will make up a major sporting goal for Spindrift racing next year.
